So I am a little off when it comes to advanced techy stuff and need instructions on how to make my own ring tones for my phone. What I want to do is take a file I have of a song and only record the chorus of it in to a new file. Is that possible? If so can you please let me know what I need to do this? Thanks a lot.

we do ours in sound forge, if you know how to use it. you have to have it um, i can't remember if it's twenty or thirty seconds. just mess around with it. smiles
you can also use gold wave or any program like that. im not the one to explain how to do it though.

lol sound forge is terribly huge. Get goldwave or convert the mp3 to wave files, then edit using sound recorder as a free alternative. Just place markers (where you want to start and stop the ringtone) and then copy that audio and paste it into a new file in goldwave. or simply, choose save as and make sure its a format your phone supports )aac, mp3, ETC)

hmmm,
simplest thing to do is get wavepad
open file to manipulate
space to play. stop where you want to erase(before the chorus) by hitting space again.
shift+home to slect from cursor to beginning of song
hit delete
resume play with space
stop at the end of the chorus by hitting space again.
shift+end to select from cursor to end of song
hit delete
alt+f for file, arrow down to save as
name file, choose directory
hit save.
wallah

your very own ringtone.

Question about wave pad: can you use the left and right arrows with the shift key to highlight audio? can you zoom in and out for smaller and larger incriments? CAn you also use markers to mark the beginning and end of a block of audio to be deleted? I tried the mac version of this and just found it very complicated to use. Perhaps the PC version is much better? Thanks.

1. yes
2. zoom in and out? I'm not familiar with this aspect of recording, so can't readily answer that.
3. Yes, go to the end of what you want to mark, alt+e, arrow up to mark 2nd position, go to beginning of what you want to mark, alt+e up arrow to mark first position. Jump to marked selections by alt+e up arrow to recall marked selection.
That is my answer to rainbowjess88 as well.
One thing however, I can't seem to find a "cut marked selection/copy marked selection.
I still say, just go to the first point of your clip you want, hit esc to stop, shift+home, delete, hit space to play, move to end of your clip with right arrow, esc to stop, shift+end, delete.

Got it thanks. Did try the PC version and it's pretty good. Zooming in and out simply changes the incriments that are moved when using the arrow keys. if you zoom in on a point the arrows will move you in extremely small incriments this is usefll for taking out a pop or click. Zooming out allows you to move in much larger incriments. Wave pad does offer scrubbing meaning when you hit the spacebar you hear where you are in the song and as you move left or right you hear the movement as it happens and that's how you would zoom in using wave pad. Now, any idea how to get hold of the support people? my demo ran out on the mac and now that I have a better understanding of how it works I would like to try it again. Hate to spend the $ 75 if it doesn't work well. for PC however it would be a good buck spent.
